A tiny butcher shop in Limoilou
It all started with a great aficionado, Alphonse Lafleur, on 5th Street in Limoilou. His sausages got so many people talking that they came from all over to buy them. Everybody wanted a taste of what would become a real local tradition for generations.

The crazier we are, the more we’ll laugh!
For the first time ever, the Lafleur team is growing. The butcher shop is getting more clients as well as many enthusiastic staff members to welcome them.

Lafleur kicks up the rhythm
Lafleur products are in great demand. To keep up, operations are motorized. Trucks are procured to deliver products faster throughout the region.

The next generation takes up the torch
Alphonse Lafleur passes away at 52. His wife and son inherit the business. To the delight of their small team, business keeps booming. The company even gets to issue its first ever 200 shares!

New Lafleur spaces
Thanks to his kids, d’Alphonse Lafleur’s business keeps growing. For the first time they buy land and construct new buildings to keep the business booming.

Lafleur is going strong
More and more people join the team to meet growing demand. They’ve acquired a fleet of vehicles to deliver products to retail and wholesale markets. The Lafleur family now has over 80 employees, no small feat!

Getting some press
For the first time ever, Lafleur appears in the local newspapers throughout the region. Sausages, cretons, ham and the rest of the product range officially launches outside of Limoilou to claim their place in grocery stores and butcher shops all over the province.

50 years is something to celebrate
Lafleur celebrates 50 years. To mark the occasion, new facilities are being opened, like a preparation centre, deli departments, smokehouse and packaging section. This turns Lafleur into a real factory that can continue feeding the community with well-known, favourite flavours.

Concentrating on wholesale
A major decision is made for Lafleur to concentrate solely on wholesale. It’s a strategic choice that speaks volumes about the future: Lafleur wants to be part of local traditions for years to come!

A promising buyout
J.N. Brochu Inc., an agri-food company based in Lévis, acquires the company. This acquisition ensures the future of Lafleur and its long-standing heritage in Quebec.

Demand explodes, the team grows
Things really heat up at Lafleur! So much so that to meet the demand, over 150 new people join the ranks. It just goes to show that when something is really good, everyone wants a bite!

A little facelift for the Lafleur brand
In a nod to Alphonse Lafleur, who called his products “the flower of sausages,” five petals are added to the logo. That same year, bacon gets added to the product catalogue – a pretty huge development that allows Lafleur to bring even more happiness, in the form of something delicious, to the people’s daily lives.

Arrival in Laval
The year 1985 is a big one! Demand is so high that a distribution centre is opened in Laval. A key step in getting renowned products onto tables throughout the entire province.

Hat trick
Guy Lafleur becomes the spokesperson for La Bonne Fourchette sausages. It’s the beginning of a winning combination that takes hold of the public’s imagination and feeds a huge passion for hockey and the Montreal Canadiens.

A brilliant (and delicious) innovation!
In 1998, precooked bacon is launched, a first in Quebec. It causes a kitchen revolution: less mess, faster prep and just as much flavour. Yes, it WAS Lafleur’s idea and even by today’s standards, it’s genius!

Welcome to the Olymel family
In 2005, action is taken to prove there’s strength in unity and Lafleur joins the Olymel family. It’s the beginning of a new chapter with a player that is firmly ensconced in Quebec and majority-owned by Sollio Cooperative Group. Together, Lafleur and Olymel continue to create authentic products that bring people together for great food.

The Authentique line is launched
In 2009, Lafleur launches the Authentique line of products that harken back to Quebecois savoir-faire and big, local classics. The logo moves back to the centre of the packaging because the Lafleur name is officially part of Quebec’s traditions.

2012
100 years calls for a celebration
For the 100th anniversary, the time is taken to highlight a century of tradition, sugar shack dinners, spontaneous picnics and birthday parties that smell like hot dogs on the grill. Together with the community, Lafleur takes the time to reflect on just how deeply rooted it is in its values and in what makes it a unique company: family and local tradition.

Solid partnerships
In 2014, Lafleur is associated with well-known players in Quebec, becoming partners with La Ronde, Village Vacances Valcartier, BMR, the Festival Western de St-Tite and even Parc Jean-Drapeau. This is the year that Lafleur d’Or is created, an award that highlights family events around the province. It’s Lafleur’s way of recognizing the time, heart and organization it takes to create events that make all the difference in local communities.

Cretons innovation

P’tit Bonheur sausages are launched and they’re a hit! Very quickly they become a classic thanks to their practical format, fast cook time and versatility. A simple, well-thought-out innovation that brings even more enjoyment and flavour to the table.

In 2019, Lafleur is looking for a change. After 10 years with the same style, it’s time for a makeover. The end result is a more minimalist logo, modernized packaging and a more current look. All that without denying Lafleur’s roots. Lafleur Blue remains a strong branding element much to the delight of our customers.

An essential return
Concentrating even more on what Lafleur believes in: Being there for everyone, helping out local organizations and supporting the beloved sugar shacks. Hockey is in Lafleur’s DNA. Lafleur is a huge supporter of the Montreal Canadiens. It’s such a big passion that Lafleur’s hot dog becomes the official snack of the team. In 2021, the 20-year partnership that unites two local icons with pride is celebrated.
