To the farm...

Similar to self-picking (see our short guide), visits to farms are becoming increasingly popular. For children, this is a joyful way to unwind and a chance to mix with the animals on the farm.  For parents, this type of visit helps them relax in nature and occupy their children, often free of charge.

But, did you know that the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA) has been organizing the official Open Farm Day (journée Portes ouvertes sur les fermes) in Quebec for 9 years? Rain or shine, on September 11, 2011, over 100 farms will welcome you between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Whether you dream of visiting a dairy or goat farm, learn everything about pig, cattle or goat farms, or just to run in the fields of a vegetable producer, almost all sectors are represented.

Visits, demonstrations, tastings, activities and games are on the program for the enjoyment of both young and old alike. In addition to pure entertainment, this type of visit allows children to learn about the origin of the food they eat and makes them aware of their environment. So, mark your calendars, and happy Open Farm Day!
