Summer festivals: New ways to celebrate!
Quebec loves to celebrate summer with festivals, and the events get more original with each passing year. Beyond the absolute musts like the Festival d'été de Québec, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, the Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition, and the International des Montgolfières in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, there are a few other gems you won’t want to miss. Check out each of them, and start planning an unforgettable summer!

Festival international de cerfs-volants Saint-Honoré dans l'vent — Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

From June 15th to 17th, 2012

This international kite festival offers fun for the entire family. An initiation to kites, entertainment and activities for children, shows and exhibits—even the program is fly!

Festival de contes et légendes de Trois-Rivières — Mauricie

June 15 and 17, 2012

This family-oriented event is your chance to experience all facets of history. In settings sure to inspire, you’ll find shows, storytelling nights, buskers and games for all.

The International Garden Festival/ Les jardins de Métis — Gaspésie

From June 23 to September 30, 2012

Time to step out and take in these fascinating gardens designed by landscape architects from all over the world. A luxuriant floral decor provides the backdrop for an impressive program of family activities and events, some of which are gastronomic.

The Wendake Pow Wow — Greater Quebec City

From June 29 to July 1, 2012

Come discover Aboriginal traditions! This cultural event combines demonstrations, food tastings, shows, canoe races, children’s games, craft fairs and more.

The Mondial des cultures de Drummondville — Centre-du-Québec

From July 5 to 15, 2012

There’s more to folklore than playing the wooden spoons! Groups from all over the world meet here to present their countries’ dances and songs. Surprise-filled shows and activities for the whole family.

The SAQ New France Festival — Quebec City

From August 1 to 5, 2012

Take a trip back in time at this unique festival held in the heart of the Old Town: theatre, dance, parades, entertainment extravaganzas, and—to the great amusement of kids—a multitude of street actors dressed up in period costumes. Psst! You can dress up too.

Festival du bleuet de Dolbeau-Mistassini — Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean

From August 1 to 5, 2012

Each year, this festival celebrates the region’s emblematic fruit in a carnival atmosphere with shows, life-size games, a night parade, a giant pie tasting, exhibits and activities for the whole family. For the food alone, it’s a must!

Concours de Châteaux de sable des Îles — Magdalen Islands

Welcome to the 26th edition of the world’s most breathtaking sand castle competition. Hundreds of builders take to one of the Islands’ most beautiful beaches, and have one day to construct their ephemeral masterpiece. Bring your pail!

Festival de la poutine de Drummondville — Centre-du-Québec

From August 23 to 25, 2012

What feels more Québécois than a good poutine? Our “national” dish is honoured during this public event where food kiosks and performing artists celebrate the province’s contribution to the world of of French fries. Don’t miss it!

Fête de la pêche — All regions

From June 8 to 10, 2012

For one weekend only, you won’t need a license to catch fish in rivers and lakes throughout Quebec. A great initiation to an outdoor activity that inspires peace … and patience!
