Ingredients
- 4 multigrain bagels cut in half
- 6 Authentic Smoked Wieners
- 2 tomatoes, seeded
- 200 g (1 cup) cremini mushrooms (also called brown mushrooms)
- 200 g (1 cup) red, green and yellow peppers, julienned
- 30 ml (2 tbsp) olive oil
- 15 ml (1 tbsp) green onions, chopped
- 325 g (1½ cups) gouda, grated
- 5 g (1 tsp) fresh basil, chopped
- 5 g (1 tsp) fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, chopped
- Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
- Seed the tomatoes.
- Slice the mushrooms, finely julienne the peppers and dice the tomatoes.
- Finely slice the smoked sausages.
- Finely chop the green onions and grate the gouda.
- Mix all the ingredients and add the olive oil, basil, thyme and garlic.
- Season to taste.
- Spread the mixture on the bagels and bake in the oven for 5 to 8 minutes.
How to Seed a Tomato
- Cut tomato in half lengthwise.
- Hold half a tomato in the palm of your hand and squeeze gently to remove the seeds
Culinary Comment:
Multigrain bagels, like multigrain bread, contain many vitamins and minerals and are very high in dietary fibre. You can find several kinds of bread at the store: whole wheat, whole grain wheat, 6-, 8- or 12-grain, bran, oat, multi-grain, etc... Each has its own special flavour, so try them all!
Note:
You can also serve the pizzas as finger food or hors-d'œuvres.
